Washington gives property owners a public, free way to check any contractor before signing. Five minutes with the L&I Verify tool answers most legitimacy questions — the rest comes from the paperwork itself. Our full guide: how to choose a roofing contractor.
Check the Registration, Exactly
Look up the contractor at secure.lni.wa.gov/verify and compare the legal business name on the record with the name on your contract — exactly. The Contractors Glossary explains what a Washington contractor registration number is and what it does and does not prove.
Understand Bond and Insurance
Registration requires a contractor bond and insurance on file — protections with real limits, not blanket guarantees. Treat “licensed, bonded and insured” as a claim to verify, not a slogan to accept.
Then Read the Scope
A verifiable business with a vague scope is still a risk. Compare tear-off assumptions, decking terms, flashing scope and warranty language line by line before comparing prices. About A1 Roofing explains how we structure scope; contact us to start with an evaluation.
